The Ogun State Police Command announced the rescue of three Indians and a Nigerian who were abducted by suspected gunmen on Sunday at the Delabo axis of the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway.

Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu, during a news conference at the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, confirmed the elimination of two suspected kidnappers.

Alamutu disclosed that the suspects were located in their hideout through a covert police operation. The kidnappers engaged the police in a gun battle upon spotting the officers’ flashlights.

“Due to the superior firepower of the anti-kidnapping squad, two suspects were neutralized, while the others fled with injuries, abandoning their weapons,” Alamutu said.

The rescued victims, identified as one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were safely reunited with their families.

“Recovered items include 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines, and two mobile phones,” Alamutu added.

He reassured the public of the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that a rapid response team had been deployed to enhance security along the Sagamu-Benin route.

“We encourage the public to report individuals displaying gunshot wounds under reasonable suspicion,” the Commissioner urged.
