The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos State University of Education (ASUU-LASUED) Chapter, has awarded scholarships to six indigent students of the institution.
The union awarded N200,000 each to two students: Oluwakemisola Ajetunmobi from the Physics Department and Iseoluwa Amusan from the Primary Education Department. Four other students received N100,000 each: Opeyemi Oyetakin from the Mathematics Department, Abidemi Samuel from the Physics Department, Ayishat Gbolahan from the Entrepreneurship Department, and Olamide Abiola from the Mathematics Department.
The Chairman of ASUU-LASUED, Mr. Akolade Lapite, announced the scholarships in a statement on Friday. Lapite emphasized that the scholarships were not merely financial aids but investments in future leaders, aimed at nurturing talents regardless of socio-economic backgrounds.
“It is with great pride and a sense of accomplishment that we stand here to witness the fruition of our collective efforts in supporting education and fostering academic excellence,” Lapite stated.
He highlighted the origin of the ASUU scholarship initiative in northern Nigeria in 2018, driven by a commitment to empower deserving students facing financial hardships.
“Today, this initiative has spread its wings to LASUED, where we continue to uphold the principles of equity and access to education for all,” he said.
Lapite noted that the scholarships were funded through the union’s internally generated dues, showcasing the unity and dedication towards the academic success of students.
“This exemplifies our unity and dedication towards the academic success of our students, embodying the spirit of selflessness and solidarity that defines our union,” he added.
Reflecting on the significance of the scholarships, Lapite reaffirmed ASUU’s commitment to promoting quality education and advocating for the welfare of both students and academic staff.
“The scholarships awarded today are a testament to the transformative power of education and the pivotal role that ASUU plays in shaping the future of our society,” he said.
Lapite congratulated the scholarship recipients for their dedication and perseverance, expressing pride in supporting their academic journeys.
“May you continue to excel and inspire others with your achievements,” he said. He also thanked union members for their tireless efforts and contributions, urging continued collaboration for a brighter and more inclusive future for education in Nigeria.
