A member of the House of Representatives Olaide Akinremi (APC-Oyo State) has died at the age of 51.

Akinremi died in the early hours of Wednesday, July 10, after a brief illness, the House of Representatives said.

Popularly known as “Jagaban”, the late lawmaker represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State under the platform of the ruling party until his demise.

A ranking member of the 10th National Assembly, Akinremi served as Chairman of the House Committee on Science Research Institutions.

A statement by the spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi, said Akinremi’s death came to his colleagues with profound sorrow.

Life and times of late Akinremi

Describing the late lawmaker as resourceful, Rotimi said that until his demise, Akinremi was a dedicated public servant known for his unwavering commitment to the development of his constituency and the nation at large.

He also said that the late Oyo lawmaker’s passion for service and his deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of his people earned him the endearing title of ‘Jagaban.’

Rotimi said, “His contributions to legislative debates and his active participation in committee activities were a testament to his dedication and hard work.”

Saddened by Akinremi’s passing, the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, said that the lawmaker was a beacon of dedication and service.

Abbas while commiserating with the family of the deceased said his contributions to legislative work, especially in the area of science and research, were invaluable and will forever be remembered.

“His passing is a great loss to the House, his constituency, and the nation. We will miss his leadership, wisdom, and the unique passion he brought to his work.

“The entire House of Representatives mourn this significant loss and extend its heartfelt condolences to the Akinremi family, the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, the Government and People of Oyo State.”
