Popular Nigerian skit maker Adebowale “Debo” Adedayo, known as Mr. Macaroni, has strongly opposed the unlawful detention of citizens, stating it is a grave threat to society.

Mr. Macaroni criticized Abraham’s activities on X in several posts, without naming her directly. The actor, describing his personal interactions with trolls allegedly affiliated with Nigeria’s ruling political party, emphasized that he has never resorted to unlawful arrests or detentions.

He made these remarks in response to the ongoing outrage on social media over Toyin Abraham’s decision to pursue legal action against an online influencer, Ayo, for bullying and trolling.

“If anyone insults you or defames your character, go to court and seek justice. APC trolls insult me and tell so many lies against my person. I have never for once used the police to illegally arrest or detain anyone and never will I. There is serious danger in using the police to illegally detain citizens. I hope those of you supporting this abuse of power won’t cry foul when you or your loved ones are the victims,” he wrote.

Mr. Macaroni clarified that, despite his strong condemnation of online bullying and harassment, he does not support using unlawful means to address it. He advised anyone affected to pursue justice through the judicial system rather than using government contacts for unauthorized detentions.

In another post, Mr. Macaroni stressed the importance of legal rights and due process. “It may favor you now, but think about tomorrow when you no longer have that power or the closeness to that power. It might not be you; it might be someone you care about,” he added.

“Don’t let the police illegally detain or torture anyone on your account. The law is clear on these things. There is a stipulated period for which you can hold an accused. Don’t deny them access to their lawyers. Don’t detain their family or friends. In summary, don’t do any injustice while seeking justice,” he stated.
