The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Environment has voiced concern over the lack of adequate water supply during its oversight visit to the Lagos State Water Corporation (LWC).

Honourable Adebola Shabi, leading the committee, expressed these concerns in a statement shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos. The statement was issued by Mrs. Kehinde Fashola, Deputy Director of the Corporate Affairs and Brand Management Unit at LWC.

Shabi highlighted the committee’s worry about the widespread unavailability of water supply in many homes across the state. He emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to protecting the interests and rights of Lagosians.

“We need a comprehensive report on the current infrastructural projects and the challenges hindering water production and distribution by LWC,” Shabi requested.

In response, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, Managing Director of LWC, assured the committee of ongoing efforts to improve water supply coverage across residential areas. He pointed out the recent connection of Baruwa Community to the Mosan Okunola Waterworks as a positive step in this direction.

Eng. Taiwo Omolanke, Executive Director of Operations, expressed gratitude to the committee members for their visit and pledged to address challenges such as customer reluctance to pay for water, despite subsidies from the state government. She announced plans to install meters for all customers to enhance accountability in water distribution.

Also present during the visit were Honourable Lanre Afini, Chairman of the House Committee on Environment Ministry, and Honourable Simon Apata, Chairman of the House Committee on Procurement.

The Assembly’s oversight underscores its commitment to resolving water supply challenges faced by residents of Lagos State.
