Fire guts petrol tank in Abuja filling station

A fuel tank was gutted by fire at Mainland Oil and Gas filling station, Dutse junction along Kubwa Expressway, Abuja.

The incident occurred at about 5:30 pm on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in the nation’s capital city.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, an eyewitness said that he was about to queue for fuel at the filling station when someone screamed that a tanker – which was yet to offload fuel – was on fire.

Firefighters and security agencies had already made their way to the filling station to quench the fire and to ensure the protection of lives and property.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no casualty.

Reports of fire emergencies

Meanwhile, in its Midyear Activity Report, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said that 50 persons were suspected dead and 223 others were rescued in emergency incidents responded to by the agency.

The Fire Service Director, Margaret Adeseye, highlighting the key statistics and trends from January to June 2024, said the service responded to 1,085 incidents, including 884 fire calls and 191 rescue operations.

In addition, there were 331 false calls, which it said underscored the need for public education on proper emergency call usage.
