Many students are currently trapped under the rubble of a building which collapsed in Busa Buji community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Friday, July 12, 2024..

It was gathered that the two-storey building which houses the classrooms and offices of Saint Academy caved at about 11:00 am while students were reportedly writing their third term examination.

The ground floor of the building mainly contains students of Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) students, while the senior students are on the top floors.

As of the time of this report, operatives of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) are already at the scene of the building collapse where they are carrying out a rescue operation.

Speaking on the incident, the Executive Secretary of Plateau SEMA in Plateau State, Sunday Abdu, confirmed that the agency had mobilised its personnel and other relevant agencies to the scene for emergency rescue efforts.

Mr Abdu said the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) personnel, and others, were currently at the scene with earth-moving equipment to remove the debris and try to rescue the children.

Also speaking, Eugene Nyelong, the Zonal Coordinator of, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the number of casualties can only be ascertained on completion of recuse operations.

Some of the victims of the collapse who have been rescued victims are being rushed to different hospitals by ambulances of various organisations, including the FRSC, NEMA, Red Cross, Army, Police, and many others.
