Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu, has condemned the attack on the former President of the United States of America, Donald Trump during a political rally in Pennsylvania.

In a post on his official X account, the president described the attack as “distasteful and beyond the pale of democratic norms.

He posted, “Violence has no place in democracy.

“I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery.

“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time,” Tinubu said.

Details of assassination attack on Trump

Trump, 78, was shot at during his campaign speech in Butler, Pennsylvania, US, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, when shots rang out, hitting his right ear and streaking his face with blood.

The assailant, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, was immediately gunned down by a Secret Service sniper.

The attempt on Trump’s life is the most recent high-profile assassination attack in the US after the killing of John F. Kennedy by Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963.

It is feared that the attack will further inflame the US political divide and has raised questions about the security lapses.
