The 2024 Hajj operation in Kwara concluded on Tuesday with the arrival of the final group of 312 pilgrims in Ilorin.
According to reports the last batch, including the Amirul-Hajj, Sen. Yahaya Oloriegbe, and other state officials, arrived at the Gen. Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, earlier than the initially scheduled Thursday return.
Speaking briefly with journalists at the airport, Oloriegbe expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the Hajj. He also acknowledged the unwavering support from Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, which he said contributed significantly to the smooth execution of the entire process.
“I also recognise the cooperation of the Kwara Pilgrims Welfare Board, officials from the national body, and various aviation agencies in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia,” Oloriegbe stated.
He advised those who participated in the Hajj to make the most of the spiritual enlightenment gained from the journey and to avoid activities that could compromise the integrity of their new status.
Prof. Mashood Jimba, Chairman of the State Pilgrims Board, expressed appreciation to the State Governor for selecting Sen. Oloriegbe as the Amirul-Hajj. He praised the former lawmaker’s exceptional leadership, which he said was a significant asset to the board in facilitating the pilgrims’ operations.
Jimba assured that the board would continue to build on this momentum and apply the lessons learned in preparing for future operations.
“It is worth noting that more than 3,000 pilgrims utilized Kwara airspace for the pilgrimage this year,” he added.
