In an unbelievable turn of events, Nigeria’s Super Eagles dropped by one spot in the FIFA World Ranking assuming the 39th position in July.
The Nigerian men’s team still maintained the 1,498.93 that it had in June on the ranking table by the world football governing body.
Super Eagles team had earlier suffered a massive drop in the June ranking from 30th to 38th after several uninspiring performances in the World Cup Qualifying matches.
The drop on the global stage in July however did not affect the team’s position on the continental stage as the 5th behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and Cote d ‘Ivoire.
In June and July, three continental competitions and numerous international friendlies were held, with over 125 matches contested globally.
Argentina secured the CONMEBOL Copa América crown, securing the top spot, while France remained close after reaching the UEFA EURO 2024 semi-finals.
Also, Spain, the newly crowned European champions, have climbed to the top three of the ranking, showcasing their impressive performance.
While, England, having surpassed Brazil and Belgium, is currently in the top five, just behind the leading pack
