Real Madrid captain Luka Modric has signed a fresh one-year deal, extending his stay at Santiago Bernabeu for the upcoming season.
“I’d like to keep playing forever but there will probably be a time I’ll have to hang up my boots,” Modric said after the 1-1 draw with Italy that put Croatia out.
“I’ll keep playing on, I don’t know for how much longer.”
The 38-year-old midfielder’s contract will now run until June 30, 2025.
This announcement comes a day after the club revealed their new star signing, Kylian Mbappe, following his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
Modric, a skipper for the Spanish league champions under coach Carlo Ancelotti, has played a significant role in Real Madrid’s success, contributing to six Champions League titles, four La Liga victories, and two Copa del Rey trophies.
Despite starting only 37 times over the last two league seasons, Modric was instrumental in helping Los Blancos achieve a Champions League-La Liga double last term.
