The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, handed a former Senate President, Pius Anyim over to President Bola Tinubu.

Uzodimma’s presentation of Anyim to President Tinubu comes less than a week after the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during his presentation to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Anyim said he defected because the country was facing challenges, which required collaboration.

His words, “The country is passing through turbulent times and it is the duty of all patriots to ensure a peaceful atmosphere.”

The former Senate President defected from the opposition party to APC in Abakaliki, Ebonyi during the grand finale of the APC Local Government Election Campaign last Saturday.

At the event he was received by the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje; Chairman of the Progressives Governor’s Forum, Hope Uzodinma; Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru; Minister of Works, David Umahi among other key leaders of the party.

Commending Anyim, the Minister of Works said the party and its members appreciate him for all the support he rendered to APC during the 2023 elections.

The former governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for the support given to him (Umahi) when he faced legal battles after joining the party.

He said, “President Tinubu called me to come and see him, and when I came, he carried me in his car personally to meet a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who handled our case.”
