President Bola Tinubu has extended condolences to the family of a former president of the Federation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou.
Hayatou died on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the age of 77.
In a statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s spokesperson, Tinubu also commiserated with the Cameroonian Football Federation, the people of Cameroon, and the African football community at large.
The president described the death of the legendary football administrator as a huge loss, underlining his contributions to the development of the sport in Africa and beyond.
Hayatou was a one-time acting President of FIFA — the world’s football governing body.
Tinubu further prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and strength to his family at this difficult time.
