Tragedy as 25-year-old man jumps into iron melting pot in Lagos

A 25-year-old contract staff in Lagos has tragically jumped into an iron melting pot of his company and died.

The death of the man whose name was not mentioned was said to have been reported to the police by the safety officer of the company (not revealed).

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the company’s safety officer reported the case to the Sagamu Road Police Division on August 3, 2024, at about 6:00 pm.

According to Mr Hundeyin, the company is located at the Industrial Scheme of Odogunyan area in Ikorodu of Lagos State.

He said that the safety officer reported that on the same date, at about 3:15 pm, the contract staff attached to the AOD Section of the company allegedly ran to the iron melting pot.

He noted that the iron melting pot is usually of bound to all the staff during operation.

Mr Hundeyin said, “He jumped into it and all efforts made by his colleagues to stop him proved abortive, while his body was completely melted.

“Detectives from the station visited the scene of the crime. The family of the deceased has since been contacted, while an investigation is ongoing.”
