After 10 years, Anambra electoral commission sets date for LG polls

An official of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has announced that the state’s local government elections will take place on September 28, 2024.

Genevieve Osakwe, the chief electoral officer of ANSIEC, in a statement issued in Awka, the State’s capital city said the timeline for the poll would be published on August 14.

Mrs Osakwe said, “The commission wishes to inform all registered political parties and the general public that Local Government Elections in the state will be held on Saturday, September 28.

“Election timetable and schedule of activities and other details can be collected from the Headquarters of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, Awka,” the statement added.

Chigozie Igwe, the Anambra State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party confirmed that the party had received the notice.

Mr Igwe said the PDP would come up with a position after meeting with his leadership team.

The last local government elections in Anambra State were held in January 2013 under the administration of Mr Peter Obi who served as governor at the time.
