Four persons have been confirmed dead in a boat mishap which occurred in Dundaye community, Wamakko Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.
The Head of Sokoto Field Operation for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Aliyu Kafindangi, while confirming the incident said the boat mishap happened on the evening of Sunday, August 11, 2024.
According to Kafindangi, a combined rescue team from NEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross, Fire Services and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and local divers recovered the dead bodies on Monday, August 12, 2024.
His words, ”Based on the investigation, 24 persons were involved in the incident but 19 of them have been rescued.
”One dead body was recovered on Sunday and yesterday we recovered an additional three, bringing the number of deaths to four.
”One person is still missing but search and rescue is still ongoing,” Kafindangi said.
He also appreciated the state and local governments including the residents community for their support towards he success of the rescue operations.
