Four people have been confirmed to have died in a flood that ravaged Shira, Giade and Katagum Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.

The Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said the victims died in the flood that took a wild turn following torrential rains across the state in the past days.

According to the Director General of the agency, Masud Aliyu, the flood also destroyed houses, submerged farmlands and washed away some sections of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway.

Mr Aliyu in an interview in Bauchi on Wednesday, August 14, said that the flood left thousands of residents homeless, submerged farmlands and cut off roads in the state.

He said, “The affected roads include Giade-Isawa and Kano-Maiduguri expressway.”

Mr Aliyu also confirmed that the Bauchi State government has mobilised contractors to repair the destroyed sections of the roads, in a bid to provide an alternative route for road users.

He, therefore, urged the people to heed the warnings of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) about impeding flood disasters.
