About 40 shops inside the popular Kaura Market, located opposite the Prince and Princess Estate in the Kaura District of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city have been destroyed by fire.

Punch reports that the fire incident started at about 11:00 pm on Friday, August 16, 2024, night.

While the immediate cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, the 40 shops were said to have been completely razed down.

Meanwhile, neither the police nor the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department could immediately confirm the incident.

Nkechi Isa, the spokesperson for the FCT EMD, however, promised to provide an update shortly.

Also, some reports claim that traders lamented the late arrival of the FCT Fire Service, which resulted in the spread of the fire, causing significant losses.
