The Yobe State government on Friday, August 17, 2024, awarded a contract worth N1.7 billion for the conversion of 63 diesel-powered boreholes to solar-powered.

Mahdi Zarma, the corporation’s General Manager, while speaking to journalists in Damaturu, said the conversation will eliminate the high cost of purchasing diesel to run the boreholes.

According to Mr Zarma, the proposed conversion of 63 boreholes in the state will address acute water shortages, especially in Damaturu metropolis.

Mr Zarma confirmed that the state government recently increased the monthly diesel supply to public boreholes from 40,000 to 60,000 litres, which was capital-intensive.

He noted that the conversion contract was awarded to Elegance Construction Ltd, with a completion period of three months.

He charged the firm to complete the work in good time and line with the project’s specifications.
