Yari donates 15 trucks of grains,other items to Zamfara flood victims

Sen. Abdulaziz Yari (APC Zamfara West) on Wednesday donated 15 trucks of assorted grains to the victims of flood in Gummi Local Government Area.

Yari made the announcement when he paid a sympathy visit to the Emir, Gummi Emirate Council, retired Justice Lawal Hassan.

The Zamfara former governor also donated 5,000 mattresses as well as 10,000 blankets to the victims.

Heavy rainfall, which lasted for about 14 hours on Friday, washed away  2,795 houses in   Gayari, Falale and Gummi towns ,among others.

The communities lost 16 lives while an unspecified hectares of farmland were submerged by the heavy downpour.

Yari said during the visit that the calamity really touched every concerned citizen of the state.

“I am giving these relief materials as an emergency measure to cushion the hardship the affected persons would encounter.

“We already have an assessment committee on the ground to collate data and figures as regards the damages incurred as a result of the incident.

“The committee is also to find out the cause of the disaster for further management to prevent recurrence,” he said.

Yari assured that once the assessment was completed, arrangements for rebuilding the affected communities would commence.

“It will be a policy under this rebuilding plan that no one would be allowed to use mud in the building.

 “Adequate modern building materials and engineers would be made available to ensure that the people have good houses for themselves,” he said.

Yari  urged the victims to have  faith in the will of Allah and pray for peace.

In his remarks, Hassan thanked the Senator for his concern and timely response to the community during this critical period.

He urged the affected communities to cooperate with the  assessment committee to enable them to understand the clear picture of the damages caused by the incident
