A 25-year-old man, Akindayo Adedoyin, on Friday appeared at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistratesâ Court, for allegedly stealing an iron rod valued at N250,000.
The defendant, who is of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 19, at 11:00 am, in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant stole an Iron rod valued at N250,000, property of Ekiti State Government.
Mr Adeniyi said that the offence contravened Section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, and promised that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until September 18, for hearing.
