The Jigawa Government is to establish five dialysis centres in the state, the Commissioner for Health, Muhammed Kainuwa has said.
Kainuwuwa made this known in Dutse at the opening of bids for the award of a contract for the construction of a diagnostic centre and completion of the Hadejia and Kazaure specialist hospitals.
The commissioner said the dialysis centres will be established in the headquarters of Dutse, Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim and Gumel Emirates.
He said the state government has earmarked N500 million for the centres.
”These centres are expected to offer free services to all dialysis patients in the state,” Mr Kainuwa said.
The commissioner warned that the government will no longer accept delays in contract execution
“Construction for the Hadejia which began six years ago and the Kazaure specialist hospital which began seven years ago, are yet to be completed.
”These projects which would have cost the government N1.7 billion now cost N4 billion due to waste of time, changes in prices and variations. We are not going to take that again.
“This is because contractors and consultants have compromised. I will assure all of you that if any consultant tries to delay us, we will revoke the contract and prosecute them,” the commissioner warned.
Mr Kainuwa also warned staff of the Ministry of Health and Due Process and Monitoring Bureau that the government will not accept substandard work on any contract.
“This is also a warning to those in the department of planning and monitoring that we will not accept compromise on the quality of job,” he said.
The commissioner tasks successful bidders to ensure that the projects are completed within the stipulated time.
In his remarks, the Director General of the Jigawa State Due Process and Project Monitoring Bureau, Kashim Ibrahim, urged the successful bidders to ensure timely completion and to deliver quality projects.
Mr Ibrahim, who assured the contractors of timely payment of work done, warned that the agency will not entertain delays and poor work.
“If you do that I assure you that there won’t be any problem. But this time around regarding the completion period, it won’t be business as usual.
“This is because delays are what may lead to variations in prices and this time around we will not entertain this,” Mr Ibrahim said.
