Police nab 2 suspects with fabricated AK47 rifle in Bauchi

The suspects had travelled from Plateau State to negotiate the sale of the rifle for N580,000.

The Police Command in Bauchi State on Thursday, September 12, 2024, said it arrested two suspects with a fabricated AK47 rifle and ammunition in Tafawa Balewa Local Government  Area of the state.

Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil, the Command’s spokesperson during a press conference in Bauchi said that the suspects were apprehended at the Boto Market in Tafawa Balewa LGA following a tip-off from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

He said that the suspects had travelled from Plateau State to negotiate the sale of the rifle for N580,000,” he said.

According to Mr Wakil, the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of the ongoing investigation.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa, has pledged to apprehend the manufacturers of such weapons, regardless of their location.

“The Command is committed to eliminating illegal firearms in the state and has urged citizens to cooperate in this effort,” Mr Wakil said.

The PPRO added that the arrest of the suspects is a significant milestone in the Command’s efforts to combat the proliferation of small and light arms in Bauchi State.

He assured the public of the Police’s dedication to ensuring safety and security.
