Flood: Borno commences water decontamination processĀ 

Borno State is taking measures to ensure that residents do not contaminate any kind of disease.

As Maiduguri flood water gradually recedes, the Borno State Government has embarked on decontamination of water in the city.

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Strategy, Usman Tar, while speaking in Maiduguri on Friday, September 13, 2024, said the state is doing everything possible to decontaminate the waters.

ā€œWe are taking measures to decontaminate the water and to reduce the risk of diseases,ā€ he said.

While advising the public to be careful and desist from consuming dirty water, Mr Tar stated that some corpses had been evacuated from the city. 

The commissioner urged the people to report any case of outbreak or infection to the relevant authorities.

ā€œWe are setting up medical centres in the camps too, for quick response to public health challenges.

ā€œI want to appeal to the public to continue to remain calm and peaceful as the government and other stakeholders are working towards ensuring their safety and welfare,ā€ Mr Tar said.

Meanwhile, different personalities are thronging Maiduguri to sympathise with the state government and residents.

Among the visitors are the Nigerian Governorsā€™ Forum led by its Chairman, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak of Kwara State; the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; ministers and senators.
