Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman made a dramatic return to action in the 2024/25 Serie A season, scoring the decisive goal in Atalanta’s 3-2 victory over Fiorentina on Sunday in Bergamo.
Despite being fully fit, Lookman was a surprising omission from Atalanta’s starting lineup for their first three matches.
His absence was reportedly due to interest from top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Manchester United, following his stellar performances in the Serie A, Africa Cup of Nations, and UEFA Europa League.
Rumors even suggested that PSG had reached a personal agreement with the 26-year-old forward.
With the transfer window closed, manager Gian Piero Gasperini brought Lookman back into the squad, and his presence was immediately felt.
Lookman provided a crucial assist in the 27th minute, helping teammate Mateo Retegui equalize after Fiorentina’s Lucas Martínez Quarta scored the opener. He later sealed the win with a decisive goal, ensuring Atalanta’s comeback victory.
