41-year-old driver docked for allegedly stealing six bags of onions worth N780,000

A 41-year-old driver, Moses Eromosele, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, appeared before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing six bags of onions worth N780,000.

However, when the charge was read to him, Mr Eromosele, a resident of Goni-gora Kaduna, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The prosecutor, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, in Kaduna.

According to Mr Leo, the complainant, one Haruna Usman reported the alleged theft of six bags of onions he intended to convey from Pambegua to Kawo Market in Kaduna.

The prosecutor said that the Police officer from the Gabasawa station, Kaduna, where the case was reported, arrested the defendant.

Mr Leo said that the offence allegedly committed contravened Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

Subsequently, the Chief Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail at N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Emmanuel said the surety was required to provide the court with proof of three years of tax payment to the Kaduna State government.

He adjourned the matter to Tuesday, October 15, 2024, for a hearing.
