Getafe have placed a hefty price tag on Nigerian midfielder Chrisantus Uche following his outstanding performances in the Spanish topflight.
The 21-year-old, who joined the Madrid-based club just weeks ago from third-tier side Ceuta for a modest €500,000, has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting talents in La Liga this season.
Uche made an immediate impact on his debut, scoring the equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés.
His strong form continued in Getafe’s second match, where he was named the most valuable player in their win against Rayo Vallecano.
Since then, the Owerri-born midfielder has started all four of Getafe’s games, solidifying his place in José Bordalás’s squad and becoming a key player in their campaign.
Despite his youth, Uche’s versatility and ability to adapt have caught the attention of major European clubs. Originally fielded as a forward due to team absences, Uche has shown his prowess in attack, adding dynamism and goals to Getafe’s lineup.
His performances earned him a nomination for La Liga’s best U-21 player for August, although he narrowly lost out to Lamine Yamal.
Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that several top clubs are now closely monitoring Uche’s development, prompting Getafe to place a transfer fee of over €10 million on the rising star.
This significant increase from his initial transfer fee reflects Getafe’s confidence in Uche’s potential and their reluctance to part ways with him so soon.
With his rapid rise and impressive early performances, Uche is being tipped for future stardom, and a call-up to the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, seems inevitable if he continues on his current trajectory.
