Social media platform, TikTok on Monday, September 23, 2024, introduced a revamped version of its “Subscription” monetization feature, now available to eligible creators in select regions.

The countries affected by this new feature include Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and the United States of America.

The platform plans to expand the feature to additional markets in the coming weeks.

This launch follows TikTok’s March announcement that it would rebrand its LIVE Subscription tool to “Subscription” and extend it to creators beyond live streaming.

The feature is designed to help creators offer exclusive content to paying subscribers, positioning TikTok as a direct competitor to platforms like Patreon, Instagram Subscriptions, and YouTube’s channel memberships.

With the update, creators can now provide exclusive access to videos, live streams, and notes to subscribers.

The feature includes three different subscription tiers, each offering unique perks at varying monthly fees.

Subscribers will also enjoy benefits such as custom stickers for use in live sessions, badges displayed next to their names in comments and profiles, and access to a dedicated communication space called “Sub Space,” where creators can interact directly with their paying followers.

Creators also have the option to customise perks for their communities, offering behind-the-scenes content, shout-outs, performance requests, collaborative gaming opportunities, and more.

To be eligible for the Subscription feature, creators must meet specific criteria, including being at least 18 years old, having a minimum of 10,000 followers, and accumulating 100,000 video views in the past month, with their accounts in good standing.

This new initiative further strengthens TikTok’s efforts to support content creators and boost monetization opportunities on the platform.
