Nigerian rapper Falz has given social media personality VeryDarkMan 24 hours to retract the allegation that he assisted Bobrisky in having money laundering charges against him dropped.
In a statement issued by his lawyers, Falana & Falana’s Chambers, and posted on his official X handle, Falz said he would seek legal redress if VeryDarkMan did not retract the allegation within 24 hours.
“Be advised that if we do not receive your formal retraction and apology as demanded within 24 (twenty-four) hours of the receipt hereof, we shall proceed with our client’s instructions to seek appropriate legal remedies, including monetary damages, against you for your incendiary publication and dissemination of defamatory statements.”
The ultimatum follows a viral audio clip released by VeryDarkMan on September 24, in which a voice purported to be that of Bobrisky, alleged that certain unnamed officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had collected N15 million to dismiss the charges.
Daily Patriot previously reported that the voice behind the audio had also claimed that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and his son had helped in getting the charges dropped by the EFCC.
In the social media post, VeryDarkMan said that, “In everything and everyone that is mentioned here, I will be disappointed if truly FALZ and his father are involved in this whole Bobrisky issue.”
He went on to allege that Falz and his father, renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, had helped Bobrisky in getting the charges dropped.
The accusation sparked widespread reactions on social media, with Falz quickly becoming a trending topic.
Refuting the allegation through his counsel, Falz said that “The entire publication was a vicious, wicked and reckless ploy to impugn the reputation of our client and lower him in the estimation of right-thinking members of the public.”
He went on to demand “an immediate retraction of the offensive and derogatory publication as well as an apology prominently published on all the platforms to which you have disseminated it without any justification whatsoever.”
