Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa has tasked newly badged Defence Headquarters Special Forces troops to go after terrorists.
In a statement by the Acting Director of Defence Information Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Mr Musa was said to have given the charge on Tuesday during the Badging of the Batch 7 Graduands of the Special Forces Operation at the Headquarters National Mission Force in Bida, Niger.
He charged the graduants to stay true to the values and principles bestowed on them by the efficient training ground.
According to him, the training has prepared them for the challenges ahead as their character will ultimately define their successes.
He further urged them not to take sides in the line of duty but to always maintain neutrality.
Mr Musa said the resilience shown by graduants was an indication of the level of professionalism imbibed by the trainers and lauded the transformation of the trainees into warriors.
“As you move forward, I want you all to remember that your skills are not about combat but also about passion, empathy and understanding towards the people you are meant to protect,” he said.
Earlier, the Commander, DHQ Special Forces Brigade, Brig.-Gen. IM Falana, said the aim of the training was to equip troops with special fighting skills and tactics that are peculiar.
According to him, the 13 weeks extensive training which commenced in January, had 124 participants, comprising nine officers and 136 soldiers.
