Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano has reportedly received 30 members from Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and National Rescue Movement (NRM) who defected to the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).

The defectors, including members who contested various elective positions in the 2023 general elections, were welcomed at a special occasion held at Africa House, Government House Kano on Tuesday.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, said the party leaders cited Mr Yusuf’s genuine intention to build a viable society as their reason for joining NNPP.

Mr Shehu Nuhu, one of the defectors, praised the state government’s projects in the areas of health and education, which convinced him to return to the NNPP.

Mr Yusuf commended the defectors’ decision, assuring them that the NNPP administration would continue to prioritise socio-economic development across all critical sectors in the state.

He said his administration was committed to implementing the party’s manifesto and Kwankwasiyya ideology.
