The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria Richard Mills has commended the people of Edo over their peaceful conduct during the October 21 governorship election.

Mr Mills gave the commendation in a statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, commending the people of Edo for what he described as the widely peaceful conduct of the election, and Governor Godwin Obaseki for appealing for peace.

He also reaffirmed the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting free, fair, transparent, and credible elections in Nigeria, and assured that it would continue to monitor the Edo situation closely.
