Enzo Zidane, the eldest son of football legend Zinedine Zidane, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 29.

The retirement, first reported by Diario AS and shared by renowned sports journalist Fabrizio Romano on September 24, marks the end of a career that saw Enzo play for various clubs across Europe.

Over the years, Enzo played for clubs in Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, and France, including Deportivo Alavés, Lausanne-Sport, and Aves.

Enzo Zidane, like his father, began his football journey at Real Madrid, coming up through the club’s esteemed academy, La Fábrica. As a promising midfielder, there were high expectations for him due to the legacy of his father.

However, despite the family pedigree, Enzo struggled to follow in his father’s footsteps and establish himself at the highest levels of professional football.

Enzo, whose full name is Enzo Alan Zidane Fernández, most recently played for Spanish side Fuenlabrada in the third tier of Spanish football.

Despite his movement across different leagues, Enzo never quite managed to carve out a stable position at the elite level of European football.

His most recent stint at Fuenlabrada in Spain’s third division saw him involved more on the periphery of professional football.

In his retirement statement, Enzo cited a desire to focus on “private matters” and pursue personal interests, including expanding his business ventures and investments.

Reports suggest that Enzo, like many other retired athletes, has been involved in several investment opportunities during his playing career, which he now plans to focus on more intensely.
