The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero has called on the federal and state governments to prioritise the maintenance of dams across the country.

The traditional leader said prompt maintenance of dams in Nigeria will help the nation prevent flooding and protect the lives and properties of the citizens.

Speaking at his mini-palace in Nasarawa, Mr Bayero emphasised the importance of deploying experts to monitor and inspect dams nationwide, ensuring that they are in good condition for the well-being of all the citizens.

He sympathised with the people of Borno and other areas affected by the recent devastating floods, which have resulted in loss of lives and property.

The Emir stated that the prompt maintenance of dams was essential to prevent flooding and the eventual devastating unpalatable consequences.

Mr Bayero commended President Bola Tinubu’s efforts towards alleviating the prevailing economic hardships through various programmes and policies.

He also explained that the president’s support to the citizens would go a long way in settling those victims affected.

The emir said,  “I am strongly appealing to well-to-do  Nigerians, corporate organisations and indeed the international  community to continue to support the victims.”

Mr Bayero appealed to the government and citizens alike to  highlight the need for collective actions to prevent the recurrence of  such natural disasters.

He urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the leaders to ensure the entrenchment of good governance in the country.
