The first lady of Akwa Ibom, Mrs Patience Eno, is dead, Mr Ini Ememobong, the state Information Commissioner has said.
In a statement in Uyo on Friday, Mr Ememobong said the governor’s wife died on Thursday in the presence of her family.
The commissioner said that further details concerning the incident would be provided by the family and urged the public to support the Akwa Ibom first family with prayers during the period of pain.
“The family kindly requests privacy as they mourn their beloved wife, mother and grandmother,” he said.
“The governor appreciates everyone that has stood by the first family during this period.
“He assures that in spite of the personal loss, his commitment to the service of the state remains unwavering,” the statement read in parts.
The late Mrs Eno was the founder of Golden Initiative For All, a platform used to support vulnerable people in society.
