The president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has expressed optimism that the Super Eagles will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their disappointing performance in the early stages of the qualifiers.
The Super Eagles have managed to earn only three points from four matches, with three draws and one loss, placing them fifth in their qualifying group.
Despite the sluggish start, Mr Gusau remains confident in the team’s ability to turn things around and secure a spot at the tournament.
Speaking on the team’s prospects, the NFF president said, “While the results so far have not met our expectations, I have faith in the players and coaching staff. There is still time to recover, and I believe the Super Eagles will rise to the occasion and qualify for the World Cup.”
The Nigerian team will need to improve their performance in the remaining matches to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
“I have much confidence we will qualify for the next World Cup in 2026,” Gusau said while outlining his achievements as NFF president.
He added, “I know we have a very bad start, having just three points from four matches. But if you look at the momentum now there is a level of progress.
“Everybody knows what is at stake and we are surely going to do our best to support the team.
“We have just started our qualifiers for the next Nations Cup in Morocco 2025 and by the grace of God that would be our breakthrough to winning our fourth AFCON title,” he concluded.
