Abdullahi Saleh has been confirmed as the chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) by the Senate.
Mr Saleh’s confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of the Senate Committee’s report on foreign affairs at the plenary on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
While presenting the report to members of the Red Chamber, the chairman of the Senate committee, Bello Abubakar noted that Saleh was nominated in line with Section 3 (2) of the NAHCON Act 2006.
The Senate committee chairman also stated that his team did not receive any petition against Saleh for the appointment as he has also been cleared by security agencies, and presented his tax clearance and code of conduct acknowledgement slip.
According to Mr Abubakar, the nominee possesses the required qualifications and wide experience to be appointed Chairman of NAHCON.
He said the nominee was articulate and meticulous in his responses to questions during the screening exercise.
Speaking further, Mr Abubakar, called for the confirmation of the nominee for the position of chairman for NAHCON.
In his reaction, the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin while commending the committee over the thorough screening of the nominee said Saleh has served in a similar position in his state.
He urged the nominee to ensure he brings his wealth of experience to service as the chairman of the commission.
