A 32-year-old man identified as Lanre Ogungbe has been found dead in a hotel room in Soyoye area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Ogun Police Command in a statement said Ogungbe died at about 2:00 pm on Friday, October 11, 2024.

Superintendent of Police Omolala Oduntola in the statement said a bottle of ‘Lakoko’ alcoholic drink was found beside the deceased in the room.

She added that the owner of Authentic Hotel was at the station to report the incident to the Divisional Police Officer of Lafenwa.

“He (the hotel owner) explained that around 2 pm of that same day, his hotel’s manager raised an alarm at the hotel and informed him about a customer later identified as Lanre Ogungbe, who had come to the hotel for a short rest.

“The receptionist, after noticing that the customer had not been seen, went to check on him and discovered his lifeless body on the bed.

“She immediately notified the manager, who then alerted the hotel owner.

“They condone off the scene, leaving the exhibits untouched before the complainant made a formal report of the incident to the police,” Ms Odutola said.

In addition, she said the detectives were immediately deployed to the scene of the incident where they discovered items including a bottle sniper and alcohol beside the deceased.

She noted that while there were no signs of violence found on Ogungbe’s body, it is suspected that he must have consumed the content of the poisonous substance, leading to his death.
