The family of veteran actor Saidi Balogun has spoken out for the first time since the tragic loss of his daughter, Zeenat, who passed away on October 5, 2024.

In a statement released by Jamal Balogun, Mr Saidi’s son, via Instagram on Monday, October 14, 2024, the family expressed their appreciation for the outpouring of public support during this challenging period.

The statement honoured Ms Zeenat’s memory, describing her as “a warrior who gave her life” and “an embodiment of joy, acceptance, and resilience.”

The family asked for continued privacy as they navigate the difficult time, while also expressing deep gratitude for the kindness and condolences shared by well-wishers.

“Zeenat Jolade Balogun was a warrior who gave life her all. She was the embodiment of joy, acceptance, and resilience. More than anything else, she was HOPE, as she was a die-hard believer in the phrase “never give up”,” the statement reads in part.

“She had the wisdom of a family matriarch, guiding the family only with love. Zeenat extended genuine friendship to everyone she encountered, no matter the circumstances of the acquaintance. All these loving qualities she shared with so many people serve as her lasting legacy.

“Her parting words were, “Ko de wa ri be ooo, in time, popsy mo ma change,” an imitation of a family staff member,” it added.

Mr Saidi also expressed his gratitude for the kindness shown to his family.

He mentioned that the love and support from friends, neighbours, and even those they hadn’t seen in years have been a constant source of strength.

“We have been deeply moved by the overwhelming care, the heartfelt messages, and the many condolence visits. Your presence, prayers, and acts of kindness have truly touched our hearts,” he captioned the post.

“The love and support from friends, neighbours, and even those we have not seen in years have been a constant source of strength.

“Your compassion has made this challenging period more bearable, and for that, we are immensely grateful,” he stated.
