A Magistrate Court in Lagos is billed to decide the fate of a 39-year-old man, Favour Akinyemi, who allegedly defrauded a student of N346,000.
It was gathered that Mr Akinyemi was charged before Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni on a one-count charge of obtaining by false pretence.
Although the defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence, the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Simon Uche, said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Mr Uche informed the court that the defendant on April 18, 2024, obtained the sum of N346,000 from one Naomi Precious, under the pretext of helping her to process an e-passport and other documents for her tertiary institution.
He said the offence was committed on April 18 in the Shibiri area of Ojo, Lagos.
According to him, the representation was as the defendant knowingly failed to process the said documents.
To this, the magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till November 11, 2024, for mention.
