Even commanders go off duty in war, Okupe defends Tinubu, Shettima’s absence

A former presidential spokesman, Doyin Okupe, has described the impression that Nigeria is on autopilot because President Bola Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima are out of the country.

Speaking on Friday, October 18, 2024, the former Director General of Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation said such an impressing is misleading.

He said presidents and chief executives all over the world take time off their busy schedules to rest.

Also citing instances in war times, Mr Okupe said that even field commanders go off from war theatres to cool off.

He said, “The impression being given that there is no one in charge, is false and preposterous. The President is head of government not government by himself.”

He further stated that in current times when high-tech and means of correspondence have been made swift, all arms of government- judiciary, legislative and even the executive, function at a 100 percent scale.

Mr Okupe said irrespective of the location of the president or his vice, all instruments of command and control are accessible to him.

“Policies are being implemented to the letter. Obviously there is no evidence of dereliction of duty or official irresponsibility.

“The truth is that elections are over and political gladiators should go back to the drawing board to restategise for 2027,” Mr Okupe said.
