Yehya al-Sinwar, Israel’s most wanted man has been eliminated in Gaza, Foreign Minister Israel Katz has confirmed.

Al-Sinwar was killed on Thursday, October 17, 2024, in the exclave, the country’s political and military leaders said.

Hailing al-Sinwar’s killing, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a video message to Gaza’s residents called it “the beginning of the day after Hamas”.

Mr Netanyahu also said it was an opportunity for them to free themselves from the militia’s oppressive rule.

However, Mr Katz, in a personal message to his counterparts around the world, described the killing as “a significant military and moral victory for Israel and the entire free world in its fight against the axis of radical Islam led by Iran.”

He said, “Sinwar’s elimination opens the door for the immediate release of the hostages and for a transformative change in Gaza – one without Hamas and without Iranian control.”
