The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has launched a tree planting campaign in Zamfara to combat climate change and ensure a sustainable environment.

The exercise was flagged-off at the premises of Government Girls Day Secondary School (GGDSS), Bungudu in Bungudu local government area.

Speaking at the event, NYSC coordinator in Zamfara, Muhammad Ahmed, said the initiative was part of NYSC’s nationwide drive to protect the environment.

“The primary goal of the scheme is to touch lives, especially at the grassroots. Therefore, launching of this tree planting exercise in Bungudu is a significant step in that direction,” the coordinator said.

In his remarks, Emir of Bungudu, Hassan Attahiru, thanked the commission for the initiative, saying that the project would aid in protecting the community from desert encroachment as well as harmful winds.

The NYSC coordinator and his team had earlier paid homage to the emir and used the medium to solicit continuous support of the emirate in the welfare and security of corps members serving in the emirate.
