The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has admitted to arresting controversial social media personality and crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, while attempting to flee the country.

In a statement posted on its official X account, and signed by DCI KT Udo, the Service Public Relations Officer, and dated October 21, the NIS said that Bobrisky was arrested at the Seme border.

“In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) intercepted Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju otherwise known as Bobrisky at the Seme border over an attempt to exit the country,” the NIS statement read.

Daily Patriot had earlier reported that Bobrisky was arrested Saturday morning as he attempted to enter neighbouring Benin Republic to evade an ongoing investigation by the House of Representatives.

The NIS explained in the statement that “Okuneye Idris is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern,” adding that he was “undergoing interrogation and will be handled over to the appropriate authorities for further action.”

The House of Representatives recently initiated a probe into high-profile figures said to be linked to activities deemed contrary to cultural norms and values.

Although the specifics of the investigation have not been disclosed, Bobrisky’s recent arrest has sparked speculation about his connection to the inquiry.
