The Nigeria Police Command in Ebonyi State has said it will sanction its officers captured in a viral video extorting money from some citizens.

The command’s Public Relations Officer(PPRO), DSP Joshua Ukandu, handed down the warning in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Abakaliki.

Mr Ukandu said officers and men of the Force have been warned to steer clear of unprofessional acts and focus on promoting the good image of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said that the warning became necessary following a viral video on social media depicting its officers in the state acting unprofessionally at their duty posts.

He denounced the unprofessional behaviour of the officers, adding that they would not go unpunished.

The PPRO said that the command had commenced disciplinary actions against the officers.

According to him, the command is aware of the videos making the rounds on social media depicting officers of the command acting unprofessionally at their duty posts.

“We unequivocally condemn their actions and have identified the officers involved; disciplinary actions have already been initiated against them,” the PPRO added.

Mr Ukandu said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Commissioner of Police Anthonia Uche-Anya, had reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for extortion.

He added that the CP also warned against any form of misconduct as any officer found wanting would face disciplinary actions.
