President Bola Tinubu, after Wednesday’s scrapping of the Niger Delta and Sports ministries, has nominated seven new ministers for Senate confirmation.
The new ministers are Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu, Minister of State Foreign Affairs; and Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Others are Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment; Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry; Idi Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; Yusuf Ata, Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Suwaiba Ahmad, Minister of State Education.
President Tinubu also sacked five ministers and re-assigned 10 ministers to new ministerial portfolios during the Wednesday reshuffling.
The sacked ministers include Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.
While appreciating the outgoing ministers for their service to the country, Mr Tinubu charged the incoming appointees to see their appointment as a call to service.
In August 2023, three months into his administration, President Tinubu appointed 48 ministers. Ever since their appointment, and following what many perceive as lack of performance, there have been calls for the president to reshuffle his cabinet.
In September, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga revealed that the president would reshuffle his cabinet but never gave a time for the reshuffling.
