JUST IN: Tinubu scraps Niger Delta, Sports ministries, merges othersĀ 

The presidentā€™s action follows months of public concern in what many say is a much-awaited cabinet reshuffle.

President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have scrapped two ministries and merged two others in a much-awaited cabinet reshuffle. 

Bayo Onanuga, the presidentā€™s spokesperson, in a post on social media platform X, said the decision to effect the reshuffle was approved at a meeting by the FEC today in Abuja.

The scrapped ministries are the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports, while the Ministry of Tourism was merged with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy. 

ā€œThere will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, North East Development Commission.

ā€œThe National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports. 

ā€œThe FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy,ā€ Mr Onanuga posted on X.
