A former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president and an executive member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick, has confirmed that the final decision on the disrupted Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Libya and Nigeria will be announced before the weekend.

The match, which has attracted significant attention, was initially set for a ruling by the CAF Disciplinary Committee on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

However, Mr Pinnick, speaking on Arise TV, reassured that the verdict will be delivered shortly, as the African football governing body is handling the matter with the highest level of importance.

“CAF is taking this issue very seriously,” Mr Pinnick stated, stressing that measures will be put in place to avoid similar incidents in the future.

The outcome of the committee’s ruling is eagerly anticipated, as it will determine the next steps for both teams in their AFCON qualification journey.

“CAF President Patrice Motsepe embodies integrity and Pan-Africanism. We deliberated on it during our Executive Committee meeting, and it was a topic of intense discussion,” Mr Pinnick said.

He also stated that the federation had highlighted the gravity of the situation because anything could have happened to the Super Eagles.

He added, “CAF is handling the matter with the seriousness it deserves, and we are leaving no stone unturned.”
