A member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, on Sunday, October 27, 2014, threatened to make an e-hailing (Bolt) driver disappear over a heated argument.

Mr Ikwechegh assaulted the driver when he went to deliver a package to him at his residence in the Maitama area of Abuja.

The driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, in a viral video was captured being slapped repeatedly by the lawmaker representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency (APGA)

The lawmaker consistently insulted the driver for telling him to come out and get the snail the driver was meant to deliver to him.

In the video, Mr Ikwechegh was seen stating that the driver was being disrespectful to a man of his social standing.

“Do you know who I am I just slapped you and there’s nothing you will do. My name is Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, tell them (public) I slapped you.

“Call the Inspector General of Police that I slapped you, let him come. Record me very well,” he boasted,” the visibly angry lawmaker was captured saying.

Meanwhile, the attack on the driver by the lawmaker has continued to create an outrage with the Police stating that it has launched a probe into the actions of the lawmaker.

The Police in a statement issued on Monday, October 28, 2024, urged the public not to misuse the name or authority of the Inspector-General of Police as a means of intimidation.

The statement posted on the Police X handle read: “The Nigeria Police Force is aware of the incident between a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, and Hon. Alexander Ikwegh, which took place on October 27, 2024, in Maitama, Abuja.

“The FCT Command is actively handling the case following Mr. Abuwatseya’s official report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters.

“The Police Force also urges the public to refrain from using the name or office of the Inspector-General of Police to intimidate others, as such actions undermine the values of impartiality that the IGP’s office upholds,” the Police statement said.
