The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh after a video surfaced showing him allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver.

Mr Ikwechegh, representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was taken to Maitama Police Station for questioning.

The incident reportedly began when a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, delivered a snail order to Ikwechegh’s residence in the FCT.

A dispute ensued over the payment and delivery protocol, which escalated when the lawmaker demanded the driver bring the package directly to him.

In the video, Mr Ikwechegh is seen verbally confronting Abuwatseya, saying, “How can this stupid idiot come to me and tell me that I am supposed to come and meet him in his car… I can make this man disappear in the whole of Nigeria and nothing will happen.”

After an intense exchange with the vendor over the phone, Ikwechegh turned to Abuwatseya and said, “You will not get a penny from me with this level of disrespect. You will suffer; I will deal with you.”

Moments later, he slapped the driver twice, an action captured on video as Mr Abuwatseya asked, “Are you slapping me, sir?”

Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed the incident, adding that the matter was reported by Mr Abuwatseya, and that the lawmaker is undergoing questioning.

The video has since gone viral, drawing widespread criticism. The FCT Police Command has yet to announce any charges.
